Hazel Rebecca Woodfield, 94, of Mt. Airy Md., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2016. She was born on October 30, 1921 in Claggettsville Md.
Ms. Woodfield was the wife of the late Paul Boyer Woodfield and daughter of the late John Gaver and Rena Long Brown. She was born, lived and died on Brown Church Road which was named after her paternal ancestors. She passed on peacefully in her home while being cared for by her family.
"Ms Hazel" as her Upper Seneca Baptist Church family affectionally called her, will miss her joyful smile. Among her many gifts, she loved serving others. No one left her home hungry. Ms. Woodfield loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She enjoyed setting a full table spread. During her long life, Ms Woodfield cared for elderly patients in her home. She attended Sunday Services, Wednesday night Bible study, VBS and helped on the care/social committee. The Bible verse: "and her children shall rise up and call her blessed" is true about Mom. During WWII, Ms. Woodfield served her country by assembling gyroscopes at a military facility in Bethesda Md.. Ms. Woodfield, her mother and the, first three little girls, traveled daily to sell their bake goods and farm fresh wares at the" Silver Spring Market".
Ms. Woodfield is survived by four of her five daughters., Barbara Reed Clayton, Ruth V. Day, Sherry Kunkel, and husband Jim and Sandy Rogers and husband Dick, and two grandchildren that she and her husband raised, Steve Hash and Crystal Hash. "Grandma Hazel" is beloved my 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 12 great great- grandchildren, and so many who considered her their grandmother also. Along with her family and friends, she will be missed by her sister in- law Nellie Brown, cousin Ruby Bowers, Mary Hash, Rhoda Hash, and Naomi Mattheiss. Among those waiting in heaven to greet her, are her husband, parents, daughter Gloria Woodfield Hash, brother Leroy Brown, son in laws; John Clayton, Quentin Day, and Gilbert Hash. The family expresses our gratitude to grandson Joe Day for his faithful care which helped Mom to stay in her home. Thanks are also expressed to Hospice for their help.
