Patricia J. Barr

Patricia Jean Barr passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 82.

Pat was born on March 14,1942, in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania to the late Julia and Michael Thir.  She grew up on a farm, attended school, and met her husband, John Barr, in the Cresson Mountain/Loretto area. She is survived by her sister Joanne (Ron) and is predeceased by her sister Teresa and brother Michael.

Married to John for 63 years (June 25th, 1960) and mother of five: Jennifer (Kenneth), Christine (deceased), Lisa (Michael), John, and Joseph (Jody); proud grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother (GG) of 7. She was a resident of Damascus, Maryland, for 60 years and a longtime parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

After raising her family, she went on to help others in her role as a preschool teacher at Pleasant Plains and The Children's Center in Damascus. She loved arts and crafts, puzzles, reading, and music. She was a skilled pianist and organist who played for the church as a young girl.  She enjoyed staying in contact with family and friends and never missed sending a birthday wish.

As a three-time cancer survivor, Pat shared with us all her persistence, her strength, her faith, and her belief in life.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9250E Damascus Rd in Damascus, MD, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00 am, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Flowers may be delivered to the church.

A graveside service will be held at Holy Name Cemetery, W High Street in Ebensburg, PA, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 am.
