Oris Elbert Davis, age 90, of Gaithersburg, Md., passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. He was born on April 20, 1933, to the late Dale and Ethel Davis in Webster Springs, WV. Oris enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and served till 1956. Using the GI Bill to attended WVU and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Suzanne Michael in 1960. They went on to adopt three children Melissa Gittins, James Davis (deceased) and Teah Devan. He had four grandchildren he loved dearly- Kellen Strosnider, Brianna Rodriguez, Ella Devan and Jack Devan.
His most prized possessions were his family, Science News magazines, and the Bible. His faith in God gave him peace at the end because he knew without a doubt he would go to heaven. He was a man of integrity and lived his life to show his devotion to Christ.
Oris worked on many important projects in his career as an engineer but most notably would be the Hubble Telescope during his long tenure at NASA. When he wasn’t working for NASA, you could find him volunteering at his local church, or fixing a toilet for a neighbor, there really wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for friends or family, He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Friends may call at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md, 20872, Thursday, June 29, from 3p.m. until a brief time of remembrance and prayer will begin at 4 p.m. Inurnment will be private.
