Nicholas “Nick” A. Kolb, 86, of Damascus, Maryland, passed away December 25, 2022 at Suburban Hospital.
Nick was born October 2, 1936 in Washington D.C to the late Wilbur and Louise (Albaugh) Kolb, He was raised in Bethesda, Maryland and graduated from The Landon School in 1955.
Nick furthered his studies and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Gettysburg College in 1959. While there, Nick was a proud member of the Theta chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He was married to his beloved wife Margaret, and they just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in November.
Nick served as a member of the Maryland National Guard, leaving service as a staff sergeant.
He worked at the Department of Labor, primarily within the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training for 38 years.
After retiring from government service, Nick volunteered for more than 20 years at Montgomery General Hospital, serving in various roles. He always had a kind word for those in need and created many lasting friendships.
Nick was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bethesda, where he met his wife, and then a 40+ year member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Damascus, Maryland.
He loved spending time with his wife, kids, and enjoying time with his grandchildren. He would often say how blessed he was.
Nick enjoyed sports, travel, reading, and keeping up with current events. A highlight of every summer was a family vacation to the beach, lake, or cruise.
Nick is survived by so many that love him dearly and will miss him greatly: his wife, Margaret; daughters, Judith (Joseph) Beucher of Germantown, MD; Karen (Norm) Coheley of Woodstock, GA; and son, Kenneth (Mary) Kolb of Ijamsville, MD; his beloved grandchildren, Katherine Beucher, Claire Beucher, Lucy Beucher all of Germantown, MD; Ellsie Kolb, Adeleine Kolb, of Ijamsville, MD; Charles Coheley of Woodstock, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents and many close friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Damascus (27015 Ridge Rd, Damascus, MD 20872). Family and friends will be received at a reception 3:30-5:30 p.m., directly after the service.
