Maynard D. Watkins, Jr.

Maynard D. Watkins Jr., 95, of Cedar Grove, Maryland, passed away from this life on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Georges Assisted Living in Germantown, MD.

He was born on April 7, 1928 on the family farm in Cedar Grove, the youngest son of Maynard and Laura Soper Watkins. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane. One son, Craig Watkins, and his wife, Dawn, and two grandsons - Carl and Matt.

Maynard was born and raised on a dairy farm. He was drafted into the Army and served two years before returning to the farm. Later, he worked for the GSA as a guard, and as a carpenter. Prior to retirement, Maynard worked his way up into building management. After retirement, he resumed his passion of farming with his son.

Maynard was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed bowling and a good game of golf. He was also a member of the Maryland Two-Cylinder Club and the Howard County Antique Farm Machinery Club.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Upper Seneca Baptist Cemetery, 23401 Davis Mill Road, Germantown, Maryland 20876. Pastor Paul Leatherman will officiate

There will be no visitation or calling at the funeral home prior to the graveside services.
