Maryetta T. Schweitzer (nee Monteith), 88, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania (formerly Gaithersburg, Maryland for over 60 years) peacefully left this world on Friday, September 4, 2020.
She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on December 31, 1931 and attended York Catholic High School. She attended nursing school at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania, completing her studies in 1953. Shortly afterward, she married the love of her life, Jim, and several years later settled in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She practiced nursing at several hospitals through the years and capped her career, serving for 15 years as the nurse for a local family physician, Dr. Jack Schumacher. She was very active in St. Martin's Church in Gaithersburg and served as the choir director for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jim in 2014. She is survived by her nine children, James Schweitzer (Pam) of West Lafayette, IN; Joseph Schweitzer (Meg) of Loveland, CO; Anne Morris (Tim) of Littlestown, PA; Margaret Alexander (Pete) of Gaithersburg, MD; Elizabeth Poole (Tony) of Arlington, VA; Thomas Schweitzer (Virginia) of Olney, MD; John Schweitzer (Roxanne) of Clarksburg, MD; Barbara Schweitzer (Henry Rohrs) of St Louis, MO; Matthew Schweitzer (Susan) of Greensboro, NC; 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Jack Monteith and Theresa Ziegler. She is survived by siblings Alex Monteith (Kay) of York, PA, Margaret Gloyd (Gary) of Fort Mill, SC and Philip Monteith (Dottie) of Hanover, PA
She was actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives: Mom and Nana will be deeply missed.
A memorial celebration of life and inurnment will be held at a later date.
