Margaret M. Wood

Margaret Mary Heppler Wood, of Damascus, MD, entered the Kingdom of God on August 23, 2021. She was born on April 1, 1923 in Hoboken, New Jersey, daughter of the late Richard and Lucille (Lenihan) Heppler. The family moved to Scranton, PA where Marge grew up as the oldest of 10 children. After graduating from high school, Marge moved to New York City, graduated from Felt and Tarrant Business School and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and then the Kraft Cheese Company. She moved to Washington, DC in 1943 and worked for the Census Bureau, where she met and married her beloved husband, the late F. Lamar Wood. She and Lamar lived in Kensington, MD from 1958 to 1975, raising their two children, Rick and Maryellen, with Marge working as a Homemaker and also for 7 years as Office Manager for the Snow Company. They moved to the Damascus area in 1975 where Marge was active for 44 years in the St. Paul Catholic Church community. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and participated in the many social concerns activities. Marge loved to cook and bake and was a wonderful seamstress. She learned to golf later in life and enjoyed golfing with her circle of golf buddies for many years. She was a loving and caring mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Richard Deeley-Wood and wife Christine, Maryellen Rechen and husband James, her 4 grandchildren, Kevin Rechen and wife Kelly, Molly Rodriguez and husband Gary, Eamon Deeley-Wood and wife Aiyana, and Mairead Deeley-Wood, 4 great-grandchildren, James and Sadie Rechen, and Jackson and Connor Rodriguez, 4 sisters, Betty Clayton, Lucille O’Boyle, Jane Kalafut, and Dorothy Lewis, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister, Richard Heppler, Paul Heppler, Fred Heppler, George Heppler, and Mary Barrett.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 30, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 31 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD., followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.

For those attending the visitation or funeral Mass, an adequate face covering or mask is required to be worn while inside the facility.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities or St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth and Families.
