Lewis Haines Obituary

Lewis Edward Haines, 83, of Damascus, Maryland passed away on Saturday May 27, 2023, at Lorien Assisted Living in Mount Airy, Maryland. Lewis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet (Watkins) Haines.


Born on December 10, 1939, in Purdum, Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter E Haines Jr. and Ruth (Watkins) Haines.
Lewis was a graduate of Damascus High School, class of 1958. He was employed by Haines Construction building houses for 10 years until moving to the Federal Government working as a fire inspector at Walter Reed AMC. While at Walter Reed, he was a captain when he retired in 1994. He was a life member of Mountain View Church where he was a trustee. He was also a life member of the NRA. Lewis loved buying, restoring and selling Farmall tractors as well as hanging out with his McDonalds morning crew.


Lewis is survived by his daughter Shirley (Mark) Appleby of Snow Hill, Maryland, son Jason (Melody) Haines of Damascus, and granddaughter Courtney (Juver) Haines of Damascus. He was preceded in death by his grandson Steven Haines in 2021.


Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 2 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Mountain View Methodist Church, 11501 Mountain View Road, Damascus, Maryland. Pastor Paul Leatherman will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Mountain View Methodist Church. On memo line, designate 'cemetery fund'. Lewis was a trustee of Mountain View Church and cemetery and had a special concern about the perpetual care of the cemetery.
