Konrad Raffert Obituary

KONRAD MATTHIAS RAFFERT

Konrad M. Raffert, 83, of Clarksburg, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, July 14th, 2020.  He is survived by his daughter, Linda Raffert, and her husband, Edward Shuster, of Mineral, Virginia and numerous family including a sister, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He is survived by one sibling, Lia Blumenstein, former wife, Anneliese Raffert, and a sister-in-law, Doris Raffert.

He was born in Braunschweig (Brunswick), Germany on March 5, 1937 and was the son of Konrad and Bernhardine Raffert.  He was the youngest of eight children.

He learned his trade as a pastry chef in Germany and Sweden.  He came to the United States in 1963.  He purchased his one and only home in Clarksburg in 1965, the year his daughter was born.  Two of his proudest moments were becoming a Dad and then a US Citizen.  He worked as a pastry chef at Indian Springs Country Club, Wenger’s Bakery, Radford’s Bakery and finally at Giant Food as a baker where he then retired.  Soon after retiring, he went back to work, part-time, in various departments at Giant Food in Germantown for many years continuing through April 2020.

He was an active member of the Forrest Oak Lodge #123 Knights of Pythias in Gaithersburg and the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s Club in Germantown/Gaithersburg for over 30 years.  He was also a long-time donor to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

He was an extraordinary man, with a strong faith, who always had open arms for a big hug for family, friends, co-workers and anyone he knew.  He will always be remembered for being a great father, his friendships, gentleness, caring for others and the kindness he showed to everyone he met and loved.  His motto was always “Enjoy life”.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
