Kathryn White Johnson Obituary

Kathryn White Johnson, 94, passed away peacefully at Brookeville House Assisted Living on September 26, 2020. She was the beloved mother of Jane Clarke of Damascus MD.

Kathryn was the daughter of Nellie and William White of Nashville TN (both deceased). She was predeceased by her brother, William White Jr. She is survived by her half-sisters, Carolyn Williams and Clarice Davidson, the daughters of Nellie and Hardy Hudgens. She was predeceased by her half-brother, Kenneth.

She loved cats and adopted many over the years. She had several purebred Siamese as well as mixed breeds--including one brought home from Nashville. If you are so moved, consider a memorial donation to https://www.friendsofbaltimorecountycats.org/

Kathryn worked for thirty-nine years at Kennedy-Krieger Institute (now a part of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore) in the cytogenetics laboratory. Her tenure saw the progression of karyotyping from physically cutting chromosomes out of a photograph and gluing them to a cardboard chart to sorting them completely electronically. Although she had a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, she had a real passion for genetics.

After retirement, Alzheimer’s took hold and she moved into assisted living. She was comfortable and contented there from 2010 until her death.

Private services will be held in Damascus MD and Nashville TN.
