Daniel W. Kemp

Daniel Winter Kemp, 71, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, June 8 at Frederick Health Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 7, 1952 in Takoma Park, Maryland, a son of the late Robert & Mary Smith Kemp.

Dan graduated from Damascus High School where he was a member of the Honor Society, and Drum Major for the marching band. He was a gifted artist and graphic designer.  He loved gardening, cooking and reading.  Dan was able to find sobriety through the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore.

He is survived by two daughters: Mary Elizabeth “Matie” Lee and husband Gary, of Middleburg, Virginia and Rachel Winter Kemp of Frederick, two grandsons: Dakota Daniel Lee and Spencer William Lee; siblings Robert Kemp, Christopher Kemp and Mary Anne Anderson; as well as many nieces and nephews; his former spouse Susan Heslin; and his grand dog, Milo, who will miss the bacon that Dan insisted on sneaking to him under the table!

Dan was very much loved by his family and will be forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at a later date. The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations in Dan’s name to Helping Up Mission, Baltimore, Maryland, or a charity choice.
