Barbara L. Cody

Barbara Lucille Cody of Thurmont, MD (formerly of Montgomery and Frederick County MD and Gloucester, VA) went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2023.

She was born on August 12, 1940, in Boyds, MD to Carl G Youngerman and Lucille Yancey Youngerman.

She married John Samuel Cody on June 25, 1960, and has three children, James “Jay” Cody and his wife Tracie of Thurmont, MD; Carla Cody of Chester, VA; and Barbara Jean Cody of Thurmont, MD.  She has four grandchildren: Sarah Orr, Rachel Cody, Cody Davis and Emily Davis; four great grandchildren: Conor Burkett, Robert “RJ” Summerville, Adriana Mitchell and Monroe Mitchell; and a brother: Joseph Youngerman of Killeen, TX.  

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John, grandson John Samuel Cody; sister Clara Fraley; and brothers George and James Youngerman.

Barbara graduated from Poolesville High School in 1958 and taught special needs students in Montgomery and Frederick Counties.  She volunteered at the Jeanne Bussard Center for adults with special needs in Frederick, MD for 19+ years, serving on the Board of Directors until her move to VA in 2006.  She taught Sunday School most of her adult life, teaching adults and new believers. She also served on the Presidents Board of the Good News Prison Ministry in Montgomery County, MD for 8+ years.

 Friends may call at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872, Friday June 9th from 10:00 a.m. until a celebration of her life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Mark Berkshire will officiate.   Interment will follow in Boyds Presbyterian Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Boyds Presbyterian Church, Wounded Warriors, Samaritian’s Purse (c/o Franklin Graham Ministries) or Tunnels to Towers.
