B. Rosalyn “Rosie, Roz” Bowman, 82, longtime Damascus resident died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, November 25, 2023. She was the wife of the late James "Jim" Bernard Bowman, Sr.

Born October 30, 1941, in Damascus, she was the youngest child of the late Mary Ellen (Hahn) and William Wesley Bell.

Rosie graduated from Damascus High School, class of 1959. Following graduation, she attended business college before beginning employment with the Department of Energy. She was a dedicated employee for 44 years prior to her retirement.

A pillar of the Damascus community, Roz was active with the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was a life-long member of the Damascus United Methodist Church. For many years Rosie and her sister Delores organized and served many church dinners as well as assisting with several church committees. Additionally, she was a member of the Mt. Airy American Legion Auxiliary.

An active member of the Wheaton Women of the Moose, she achieved the distinguished high honor of Past Deputy Grand Regent. Roz will be remembered by many acquaintances she has met over the years from attending local, state and national Moose functions.

Family was very important to her and for many years, Rosie and Delores assisted their mother with baked goods at the Bethesda Farm Women’s Market. She spoiled her nieces and nephews rotten as children with her unending love and affection. As they became adults, she continued sharing the love with their families. As Jim’s sons, Jimmy and Michael, were welcomed into the family, it simply meant more love to share.

Rosie was loved and respected by her family and those in the community who appreciated her honest opinion and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.

Missing her immensely are her sons, James Bernard, Jr, "Jimmy" Bowman and wife Dana, and Michael E. Bowman; grandchildren, Hailey Hamrick and husband Tyler, Hunter Bowman, Peyton Bowman, Alaena Bowman and Layla Bowman; and great-grandchildren, Naomi, Owen, and Lilly. She will be extremely missed by her sister and best friend, Delores Neal. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many good friends.

She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Richard Hines (Bev), A. Ruthellen Hruska (Ken), Donald Bell (Carolyn), John Bell (Carol), and brother-in-law, Laverne Neal; nephew, Denny Hines, and many family members who have passed before her.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, December 2, at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus, Md 20872, where funeral services will begin at 11 am.

Interment will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

A Celebration of Rosie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6 at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Activity Building, 10211 Lewis Drive beginning at 12:00 pm.

Rosie leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered for her laughter and love for years to come…rest easy good and faithful servant.
