Melba Anne (Jackson) West, 88, passed away peacefully at her residence at Lorien Nursing Facility in Mt. Airy, Maryland, on January 3, 2022. Born on April 17, 1933, in Weston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Walter Jackson and Grace Waggoner Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Channing West, and daughter, Vickie Scrivener; brothers, Walter
Jackson, Andrew Jackson, Burl Jackson, William Jackson and sisters: Baby Jackson, Edith Johnson and Norma Bixiones.
Anne met her husband while attending Weston High School and studied nursing directly after high school. She and her husband were married in May of 1952 and were stationed in Connecticut while he served in the Navy. While she was mostly a stay-at-home mother (the most important of her jobs), she also worked as an office assistant, nurse, and nursing aide.
Anne loved Jesus first and foremost followed by her family and her church where she was very involved. She served on many committees, helped with various functions and always lent a hand whenever she could.
In later years when she was a resident at an assisted living facility, and later at a nursing home, her greatest joy was being visited by Theodore “Teddy”, her great-grandson. Even on some of her harder days he could get a smile out of her.
Anne is survived by her two children: Kevin West (Nancy) of Frederick, Maryland, and Erick West of Damascus, Maryland; grandchildren: Jeffrey Scrivener (Alicia), Aaron Scrivener, Chris West, and Ashley West, and her great-grandchildren: Theodore Scrivener, Brantley West, and Hartley West. She is also survived by her sister Mary Grace Winemiller ( John)” of Zephyrhills, FL.
Her family will receive friends at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Browningsville, Maryland, on January 15, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. A Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon. The Rev. Hank Butler and Rev Kevin Beall will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
