Roger Trent Rasooli, 59, of Westminster, MD passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.  He was born to Darlene (Rasooli) Gerwitz and the late Roger Thompson Rasooli.  Roger grew up in Damascus, MD, and was a graduate of Damascus High School.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Gerald Gerwitz; his sister Sherene Biden and her fiancé Mike Mathis; stepsister Kay Wright; stepsister and husband Ann Gerwitz and Harry Corson; stepsister and husband Amy and Pat Krause; and stepsister Jill Gerwitz.  He was predeceased by his father, Roger Thompson Rasooli; sister, Coleen Rasooli; stepfather Eugene “Gene” Piper; grandparents William K. Porter and Laureen Wotring Porter; grandparents Harriet and Joseph Rasooli-Saeed; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Roger was a tractor trailer driver since his early 20s.  He spent the first few years driving cross country, and then decided to drive locally for the rest of his career.  At the time of his death, he had been employed by Rapp Contracting in Laurel, MD, where he hauled oversized heavy equipment for many years.  He considered his co-workers his extended family and truly missed them when he became ill.

He shared his father’s love of fishing and the fire department.  His father was Fire Chief in Casselberry, FL.  Even though Roger never joined a rescue squad, he followed their activities closely which included monitoring their activities on his police and fire scanner.

Roger had a soft spot in his heart for cats and dogs. He would take cat food to work and feed the stray cats every day.  Roger and his sister, Sherene, shared a home for more than 20 years.  During that time, Roger enjoyed the numerous rescue pets in their home.  However, Roger was particularly fond of his childhood dog named “Heiny” (she was a Heinz 57 mixed hound).

Roger will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Friends and family may visit from12:00 noon until 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 22, at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private in Mineral, VA, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Johns Hopkins University Cancer Research.
