James “Jim” Joseph Jamitis, 79, of Monrovia, MD, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born February 25, 1938 in Connerton, PA to the late Vince and Margaret (Wallantavage) Jamitis of Minersville, PA.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age seventeen and served as a sonarman aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Charles H. Roan. He had a long career with the Federal Aviation Administration, beginning as a radar electronics technician in Pittsburgh, PA and retiring as a budget and program analyst in Washington, DC. He was a lifelong Catholic and longtime parishioner of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Damascus, MD. Jim was passionate about football, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by wife Helen Jamitis, son Jim Jamitis of Monrovia, MD; daughter Cathy (Jamitis) and husband Kurt Nigh, grandsons Kris and Keller Nigh, all of Smithsburg, MD; sister Laverne and husband John Sabados of Red Lion, PA; nephew John Sabados and family of Norwich, CT; and niece Dana (Sabados) Sykes and family of Mount Wolf, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Vince Jamitis of Miami, Florida.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 23, at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD. Father Joseph Pierce will preside. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, MD. Afterward, friends and family are invited to return to the Saint Paul Church hall for food and fellowship.
