Gene Edsel Yoho, Jr. 66, of Damascus died suddenly on Sunday, October 8, 2017  after a brief illness. Gene was the loving husband of 46 years to, Marla Heflin Yoho.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Sheri Yoho Steinig, son-in-law, Christopher Michael Steinig, and their children, Ian and Hannah, who recently moved from Rockville, MD to Greenwood Village, CO and his son, Brett Landon Yoho, daughter-in-law, Lindsey Marie Yoho, and their children, Maiya, Zoe, and Rylan of Evergreen, CO. He also leaves behind his parents, Gene and Mabel Yoho of Damascus; siblings, Cheryl (Yoho) Kaminski, Susan (Yoho) Greenville, Joseph Yoho, and Amy Yoho; parents-in-law Gene and Madeline Heflin; sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and furry four-legged family members, who all adored him.

Gene was regarded by friends, family and colleagues as “one of the nicest guys you’ve ever met.” He approached life and everyone he encountered with a smile. His 6’5” stature was anything-but-intimidating, as just one encounter with Gene would let you know that his towering body contained a heart of gold and generosity. Gene delighted in doting on his wife, kids, and grandkids. Known as “D” to his grandchildren, he made them the center of his life.

Gene grew up in Damascus, MD and graduated from Massanutten Military Academy. He was just 16 when he started dating Marla Heflin. They quickly fell in love and married, establishing a sweet partnership that would serve as the foundation for a warm and welcoming home in Damascus in which to raise their family.

Gene joined the family’s business, Crescent Electric Service Company, more than 40 years ago, helping to run the overall operations. 

Gene had a wide range of hobbies. He loved being outside. Birds, squirrels, and deer flocked to his and Marla’s beautiful yard, which was a testament to his green thumb. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, was an avid reader and always seemed to know the answer to any question. At the holidays, Gene was known for his famous eggnog. He loved to spend his Sunday mornings, first with his kids and then his grandkids, sharing his delight in the classic comedy of The Three Stooges.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gene Yoho, Jr. to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or American Heart Association. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Gene’s life on Sunday, October 22 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872.
