William Michael Seidel, age 58, of Germantown, MD died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born, July 22, 1958 in Altoona, PA. The son of the late James (Bud) and Donna Seidel.

Bill was a 1977 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a graduate of California University of PA in 1981 with a degree in criminology. After college, he became a Metropolitan Police Officer in Washington, D.C., a Howard County Police Officer, and finally a Montgomery County Police Officer where he served for 27 years. During his career, he was in the SWAT team, R.O.P.E., and a member of the K-9 unit. He trained and worked with his partners Alson, Smokey and Lambert. Throughout Bill’s career he attended numerous specialized schools including Sniper School in Quantico, VA, Helicopter Repel School, and Explosive Entry School.

He was highly accomplished, receiving many awards throughout his career. His final award was bestowed this past February when his youngest son, Nicholas, accepted the Medal of Valor in his honor.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara J. Seidel, daughter, Jamie Seidel, son, Sean Seidel (Lauren), son, Nicholas Seidel, daughter, Aubrey Seidel and granddaughter, Ainsley Seidel. He is also survived by his brothers Jim and Rick Seidel and sister, Lynne Rossman, in-laws Gene and Liz Smallwood, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.

Viewing will be held from 1pm to 5pm, Monday, March 13 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9240 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Funeral is being held at St. Paul’s, 11am, Tuesday, March 14.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Best Buddies Friendship Walk donated for participant Aubrey Seidel or to Special Olympics.
