Kenneth Walter Obituary

Kenneth Allan Walter, 81, of Woodfield, MD died peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, MD, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Washington, D. C. on October 9, 1936, he was a son of the late Thelma Bosley Walter and Norman O. Walter and grew up in Takoma Park and Cedar Grove, MD. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Mary Jane (Day), daughter Alice Jane Scheidt (Leon Paul) of Lancaster, PA, and son Bruce Allan Walter (Liz Dilworth) of Valley Lee, MD. His son, Bryan Kenneth Walter, was killed by a drunk driver in May of 1973.

Allan graduated from Damascus High School in 1954 and from American University in 1958. His 30-year career in Montgomery County Public Schools included teaching history, social studies, civics, psychology, and serving as assistant principal in Montgomery County for a total of 30 years. 

In addition to his wife and children, Allan is survived by his brothers Robert Norman Walter of Damascus, MD, John Franklin Walter (Linda) of Woodfield, MD, and sister-in-law Marilyn King Walter of Lewes, DE. Allan was predeceased by his youngest brother David Earl Walter, sisters-in-laws Jill Burdette Walter, Doris Bowles Walter, and brother-in-law Reuben Locke. 

Also surviving are brother-in-law James Rudell Day (CiCi) of Clarksburg, MD, sisters-in-laws Evelyn Day Hilton (Robert) of Damascus, MD, and Virginia Locke of Mercersburg, PA. 

In addition, Allan felt very thankful and greatly blessed by his five grandchildren, Stephen Scheidt (Kara), Laura Vinroe (Jarrod) of Lancaster. PA, Kayla, Ryan, & Dylan Walter of Valley Lee, MD; and three great grandchildren, Selah, Annika, & Ezra Scheidt. His large extended family included his precious aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. 

In retirement, Allan and Mary Jane enjoyed Damascus Travel Club trips/activities and numerous trips across North America in their camper van, as well as cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean with friends Hazel and Mike Tabler and Sandy and Jack Clark.

Allan faithfully worshipped and served in various offices at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, enjoying all the activities and musical programs with his many church friends. He also cherished time with family at numerous reunions.

The family will receive friends at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road Damascus, MD on Sunday, February 18, from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 23640 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD on Monday, February 19 at 11 am. Internment will immediately following in the church cemetery.

 Pallbearers will be: Stephen Scheidt, Jarrod Vinroe, Colin Fagan, Ryan Walter, Dylan Walter and Greg Day. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bob Walter, John Walter, Rudell Day, Robert Hilton, Mike Tabler and Don Griggs.
