George Michael Barr

     George Michael Barr of Germantown, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 23, 2017.  He was born February 18, 1935, in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania, and was the beloved son of the late Frederick Barr and Susan (Hutsko) Barr.   

     George is survived by his wife Barbara Ann; married for almost 58 years. He was the loving father to, Michael, Dennis (Teresa), Susan Welch (James), Daniel and his friend Merryn.  He is also survived by his eight adoring grandchildren:  Joseph, Brittany, Joshua, Casey, Ashley, Jessica, Nicholas and Jeremy.

     He is also survived by his brother Stephen (Mary Ann) and sisters Dorothy LePine and Patricia Miller.  He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, John, Frederick and sisters Mary Barr, Ann Grobosky, Margaret Appleby, Helen Maslyar and Alice Hitchcock.  He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

     George loved planting his gardens, loved to travel and was an avid metal detector experiencing many great finds.  He was a magnificent handyman and enjoyed helping others no matter what the task.

     He especially loved his grandchildren and was extremely proud of each and every one of their accomplishments.

     A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Mother Seton Parish Catholic Church, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd, Germantown, Maryland.  There will be a reception immediately following the mass in the parish basement.  Interment will be held privately at Arlington National Cemetery on a future date.
