Mr. Auther “Art” S.E. Gourley, 71, of Damascus, Maryland, passed away at his home surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 19, 2017.  He was the loving husband of Linda Gourley, his wife of 43 years.

Art was born August 26, 1946 in Florence, Italy, a son of Dolores Taddeucci Gourley and the late Lawrence Gourley.  He graduated from Gaithersburg High School and was an army veteran who served in the Vietnam War.  After his service, he spent many years in the mechanical engineering field.

Art was a devoted husband, father, son and grandfather “Papaw”.  He was very artistic, loved to draw with his grandchildren and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.  He also looked forward to spending Sundays at his moms.

In addition to his wife and mother, Auther is survived by three children:  Angela Gourley Berry and husband Kent of Mount Airy; Jessica Gourley of Damascus; and Marcus Gourley of Damascus.  Four grandchildren:  Taylor, Luke, Kelsey and Caden Berry.  He is also survived by brothers:  Lawrence and Kenneth Gourley, a sister Orlanda Gourley Martens, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Marcell Gourley.

Family and friends may gather at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 11900 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872, on Wednesday October 25 from 9:30 a.m until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, Maryland.
